Being a Vegan

Over the last year or so, I have had several people close to me pass away from Cancer. It has been difficult to see them suffer and then lose their battle with the disease. I decided to really look at my life, my blessings, my family and try to live life to the fullest. I want to live a happy healthy life, for myself and for my family. Part of this journey was to research the effects of the foods we eat on our bodies. A dear friend of mine that lost her battle with Cancer suggested a book called Anti-Cancer, A New Way of Life. This book was an informative look at the mechanisms of cancer. There were many helpful charts, tables, and illustrations that clarify the sometimes technical information about the latest research on the genesis and progression of cancer. The author explained how rogue cells are nourished and conversely, how they can be starved of the nourishment that they need to multiply. I spent hours reading that book and I learned so much about the human body and how the foods we eat are either carcinogens or anti-carcinogens. That book led me to research the worlds cultures and their diets and also there cancer statistics. After reading many books and lots of time spent researching, i felt like i wanted to make the transition to eating a plant-based diet. It has been a month now and I feel great!! I have eliminated all animal products from my diet and I think the best way for me to describe how I feel is CLEAN. My organs feel clean. My skin and hair look and feel healthier. I have an added energy. I have dicovered so many cool grains, and veggies that i have never tasted before.
Sure, i miss cheese every once in a while, but i love the way i feel way more than i miss the cheese.
I know this life style isn't for everyone. I just wanted to share my experience with you and suggest that you too become aware of what you are putting into your body.

Way to go!! The saying really is true, 'You are what you eat'. I think it's hard to make that choice, and also to stick with it!!! Thanks for being a good example!!! What we eat really makes a big difference

Hey Shayleen, I have been thinking about you lately. I saw on facebook you ran a 1/2 marathon.....How did it go? I need to call you. I will say I have always laughed when I hear someone is a vegan, because I grew up on meat and potatoes ;). But you make some good points. Most of my dinners are centered around meat. I wouldn't mind eating less meat.

Will you e-mail me with info.? prsmitty2002@hotmail.com Thanks. Bytheway, you look great!! I am glad you are doing well. Renee
